Shrubbery: Application Development For Urbit

May 6, 2024 3:00 PM

In this talk, Liam will explain the "Shrubbery" project, a skunkworks project from the Urbit Foundation that aims to redefine how user-facing applications are written on Urbit. The discussion begins with a critique of Urbit's current userspace layer, before moving on to a first-principles discussion of Urbit and how that has informed the Shrubbery prototype. The talk then detours to talk about non-Urbit influences on the prototype before moving to a walkthrough of sample applications written under this model, followed by a live demonstration. Liam will then elaborate on the new native UI engine being developed as part of the project.
